“WHY
JOIN?” “WHAT COULD IT POSSIBLY DO FOR ME?” These were the questions
I asked five years ago when I considered the merits of the AGA and
most importantly, the decision of getting actively involved. During
the early sessions that I attended the AGA meetings, I was impressed
with how this organization conducted its business. I thought of the
AGA Silicon Valley Chapter as a promising organization and potentially
a means to proliferate the governmental accounting profession.
As the President of the AGA Silicon Valley Chapter, I am committed to
fulfilling this vision and lead talented colleagues of officers who
will be judiciously planning and conducting activities for the year.
Monthly luncheon meetings will, of course, be part of the agenda. This
year, however, we are changing our monthly meeting location to
Biltmore Hotel for the primary purpose of allowing more participation
and expanding membership. Additionally, acknowledging that
certification is one of the hallmarks of a professional, AGA is making
steps to help individuals obtain the Certified Government Financial
Manager designation by working out a plan in making the Intensive
Review Course as accessible as possible to our members. In conjunction
with all these hard work, a fun “Social Hour” is also within the radar
screen of our planned activities.
As all these activities unfold, information and details will be made
available to you via our newsletter and the website. I personally
invite you to some, if not all, of these events so you could find out
for yourself the rewarding and fun experience the AGA Silicon Valley
Chapter has to offer. Together, we can make governmental accounting a
learned profession!
Thank you for your visit and hope you can join
us to our monthly professional development meetings!
